To provide knowledge and understanding in the following areas:

Have a basic understanding of the industry, the dangers of working in the industry and their responsibilities as an operator
Have a working knowledge of the manufacturer’s handbook for the particular machine to be used
Be able to locate and identify the major components of the machine and explain their functions
Be able to locate and identify key controls and explain their functions
Conduct all pre-operational checks in accordance with manufacturer’s and legislative requirements
Identify and maintain PPE appropriate for roller use
Prepare the roller for use and operate machinery safely and efficiently
Conduct all necessary safety checks at the work area
Operate machinery safely and efficiently
Environmental considerations
Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of loading and unloading procedures for machine transportation
Carry out all end of shift and shut down procedures

Demonstrate a basic understanding of the industry and their roles and responsibilities as an operator
Demonstrate a knowledge and understanding of the machine and how to operate it safely
Demonstrate a working knowledge of the manufacturer’s handbook
Locate and identify the major components and controls of the machine and explain their functions
Explain the loading/unloading procedures for machine transport
Explain the principles, requirements and techniques for good compaction
Conduct all pre-operation checks
Conduct all necessary safety checks at the work area
Safely mount and dismount the machine
Configure the machine for travel then move off and stop safely
Manoeuvre the machine safely, over varying terrain and rough ground, in open and confined areas
Compact loose granular materials to specification
Compact in straight lines and around radii
Compact supported and unsupported edges
Carry out all end of shift and shut down procedures.


Our course covers many subjects. You’ll learn about the plant, controls, and necessary PPE. Also, safe mounting/dismounting, pre-start checks, and operator duties. We follow NPORS guidelines. You’ll learn safe parking and shutdown procedures too.

The course length vary

A minimum of 18 years old

On completion of the course you will get an NPORS Certificate and a card valid for 3 years.
